STRATEGY AND CHANGE

BRINGING PRACTICAL SOLUTIONS TO COMPLEX ISSUES

I bring practical solutions to complex issues by drawing on a wide range of skills to assess current status, understand best practice, identify the gap with best practice, and consider possible change solutions to improve practice and performance. My relevant skills and expertise include governance proficiency, appraisal of the evidence and, where needed, establishing the evidence with new research; consultation and communication with relevant stakeholders from a range of audiences; research translation; and my deep understanding of behaviour change at an individual and population level.  

The services I provide include:

  • reviewing current system or practice, and identifying gaps with best practice evidence

  • identifying what can change in the current environment

  • strategic planning 

  • identifying readiness for research translation, including identifying the need for new research or data collections for successful implementation

  • communication and consultation with a wide range of audiences, including about sensitive matters

  • building strategic, effective and enduring partnerships

  • best practice governance

  • change management.

DATA

OPTIMISING DATA USE THROUGH IMPROVED GOVERNANCE, COLLECTION AND REPORTING
Optimal use of data depends integrally on the quality of the data collected and the associated system, its attributes, and the governance under which it is established and used. The best designed systems will align with the mission and strategy of the organisation and provide information on performance and where there is room for growth. I have honed my extensive and unique skills to establish or adapt data systems/collections over many years and multiple projects.

The services I provide include:
  • review current data availability relative to need
  • identifying gaps in data or reporting with best practice evidence
  • supporting new data system design, planning and governance, and integrating this into the existing or transformed business (including surveys, evaluation, ongoing collection, statutory collection)
  • designing new reports to facilitate data-driven decision-making
  • developing feedback loops from policy and practice through to data collection/evaluation.

POLICY AND LEGISLATION

HARNESSING THE POWER OF POLICY AND LEGISLATION TO ACHIEVE POSITIVE AND LASTING OUTCOMES FOR THE COMMUNITY

Policy and legislation are powerful levers to achieve positive and lasting outcomes for the community. Shifting these systems is often challenging, but they are highly effective in implementation if well designed. I use a range of skills and experience acquired through academic training and then over 15 years of work across government in public health to optimise policy and legislation.

The services I provide include:

  • identifying the need for a new or changed policy or legislation

  • providing advice about associated best evidence-based practice

  • undertaking relevant consultation and negotiation

  • drafting the product in partnership with the business

  • using strategic influence to drive change in an existing environment.

ONGOING ADVISORY

SUPPORTING CHANGE
For organisations that are undergoing change, reform or on a quality improvement pathway, I understand that it can be difficult to know where to start especially when you are responsible for ongoing business operation which is already a full-time job. Having the space to think about issues and embark on change can be hard. This is where I step in, helping to identify what needs to be changed, can be changed, what it could change to and how.  I can support individual projects over the short term or have a longer engagement based on hours per week or month. Advice can be provided over a number of areas of the business, responding to issue as they arise.
